Born February 28 1935, Edinburgh.
An amateur player in his youth he went on to become a Class One Referee, President of the Edmonton District Soccer Association and President of the Alberta Soccer Association by 1979. He held various positions with the Canadian Soccer Association, twice becoming President? 1982-1986 which culminated in Canada's only appearance at the World Cup Finals and again 1998-2002 in which time Canada won the Gold Cup, the Championship of North & Central America, so qualifying for FIFA's prestigious Confederations Cup. He has held various official positions with CONCACAF 1986-2002 and with FIFA from 1984-2002. They include being a member of the Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 1987 FIFA World U17 Tournament, the FIFA Women's U19 World Championship 2002 and the FIFA U20 World Championship 2007. He is a Member, Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, Member CONCACAF Hall of Fame and Member FIFA Order of Merit. He has managed all this and been a career public servant, firstly with the Government of the United Kingdom and then with the Government of Alberta from 1968-2000.
